What Is Time-Shift and How Does It Work?

Time-shift is a feature that lets you pause, rewind, and fast-forward compatible programming during or after a live broadcast — similar to pausing a DVR feed. On S7 series devices, time-shift functionality is available for supported channels and content where the service provider permits it. On S6 series devices, a shorter time-shift window applies.

Time-shift works while you are actively watching a supported channel, letting you pause mid-broadcast or jump back within a session. This is a streaming feature — content is not downloaded or stored locally. Availability depends on the specific app or service and whether that provider enables time-shift for the content you are watching.

What Is Playback and How Is It Different From Time-Shift?

Playback refers to on-demand access to past programming made available by a streaming service for a limited window — typically up to seven days on supported channels. Where a service offers this feature, you can select past content from the guide and stream it independently of a live feed, without downloading or storing anything locally.

Playback availability depends entirely on the streaming service and the specific channel or content. Not all channels or content types support playback, and providers may change or restrict this feature at any time. SuperBox TV Now does not control or guarantee playback availability for any content.

Does SuperBox Support Recording Through Compatible Applications?

SuperBox runs Android 12 and supports recording through compatible applications where that functionality is available and permitted. Recording capability varies by app and service. Some content providers disable or restrict recording within their applications using digital rights management technology.

Users may record personal videos or content they are authorized to record — for example, home recordings, content they own, or content where the provider explicitly permits recording for personal use. Users must not attempt to bypass DRM or recording restrictions built into applications or content streams. Federal law prohibits circumventing technological controls that protect copyrighted material.

Does SuperBox Support External Recording Equipment?

SuperBox supports connection to external HDMI recording equipment via its HDMI output port. External capture devices connect between the SuperBox and the television, allowing compatible content to be recorded to external storage where the user is legally authorized to do so.

Users are responsible for ensuring they have legal authorization to record any content captured through external equipment. Recording capability through external devices is subject to the same legal requirements as any other recording method — users may only record content they own, content where the provider permits recording, or content they are otherwise lawfully authorized to copy. Many streaming services and content providers restrict or prohibit copying of their programming regardless of the recording method used.

What Are the Legal Requirements for Recording?

US courts have recognized that noncommercial home recording for later personal viewing — time-shifting — can be lawful in certain circumstances.
